How to redesign the cargo transportation between the port and its cargo facilities without hindering the city’s traffic ?
Establishing a new road layout for the city and the port is one way of improving port competitiveness, reducing the environmental impact of port activities, and optimising the accessibility of city/port sites. The creation of new access points can also result in the availability of new spaces. ZEAL, integral to Chile’s port system, optimises cargo operations in Valparaíso by coordinating traffic through SILOGPORT. Strategically located away from the city centre, it manages over 500,000 trucks annually, enhancing port competitiveness while minimising traffic congestion.
The Logistics Support Extension Zone (ZEAL) is an integral part of the Chilean port system, designed to enhance the efficiency of cargo operations through the southern access of the Port of Valparaíso. As explained by the Valparaiso Port, ZEAL serves as a central logistics control hub, overseeing the movement of trucks and cargo entering and exiting Puerto Valparaíso terminals. This coordination occurs via the Port Community System, SILOGPORT, linking participants in the foreign trade logistics chain to efficiently track the physical and documentary flow of their goods. ZEAL offers infrastructure and facilities for load inspections and provides a range of services for cargo passing through the port. Managed by Zeal Sociedad Concesionaria, a subsidiary of Grupo Azvi's Cointer Chile, in close coordination with the Port Company, this logistics enclave is located on Camino La Pólvora, situated in the upper region of Valparaíso, approximately 11 kilometres away from the port.
