A New Transportation System to Connect the City and the Port
Reducing the negative impacts of periods of peak activity in the City Port territory by any means possible.
How can the infrastructure within the port city provide safe mobility for local communities and support the sufficiency of the port?
To address traffic congestion, noise complaints, and security tensions, optimising rail and port links can provide unique points of access to the port while improving its economic impact. Through extensive consultation and design adjustments, it is also possible to improve living environments of citizens close to the port and incorporate features like extended footpaths, cycle paths, and noise barriers. The Low Level Road project in Vancouver, led by Stantec, upgraded a vital roadway along the North Vancouver waterfront, enhancing transportation efficiency, safety, and environmental sustainability. Completed in 2014 for CAD 101.6M, the project received recognition for its sustainability efforts, providing safe mobility for local communities and supporting port operations effectively.
In Vancouver, Low Level Road was a highway running along the North Vancouver waterfront, parallel with the rail tracks and close to residential units with views of the water and the growing port activities. The Low Level Road project, undertaken by Stantec, is a significant infrastructure initiative in Canada. It involves the transformation and upgrade of a crucial roadway that links North Vancouver's harbour area. This redevelopment project aims to enhance transportation efficiency, safety, and resilience while also considering environmental sustainability. Traffic congestion, security, and noise complaints were all sources of rising tension between the port, industry and the local community. The Low Level Road project was designed to address these issues, while optimising rail and port links and the economic impact generated by the port terminals concerned.
