The AIVP participates to the One Ocean Summit with the presence of Edouard Philippe, president of the association, and Mario Girard, its Vice-President

One Ocean Summit, Brest, 9, 10, 11 February 2022 Edouard Philippe, President of the AIVP, and Mario Girard, Vice-President, have committed themselves in the name of port cities for the ecological transition during the One Ocean Summit. Forum : Large ports commit themselves to the ecological transition (10/02/22 from 4pm to 5.30pm) The AIVP organized and moderated a session entitled "Large ports commit themselves to the ecological transition" in the frame of this summit. Bruno Delsalle, General Manager of the AIVP, and José Sanchez, Director of content, moderated this session Representatives of European, Asian, African and American ports were able to exchange, during a forum, and to grasp the various challenges of the ecological transition. To meet these challenges, the participants mentioned the solutions that they are implementing in their port territories. To close this session: Mario Girard, Vice President of the AIVP gave a speech in favor of the climate action of port cities (appendix 1 - speech).Jean-Baptiste Djebbari, Minister of Transport (France), presented a declaration entitled "Joint commitment of port stakeholders to reduce environmental impact of stopovers with the support of Ministers", signed by over 20 European, North American and East Asian countries. Emmanuel Macron, French President, thanked the AIVP and praised its commitment to the energy transition of port cities (appendix 2 - speech). The commitments made at the One Ocean Summit, extend the objectives of the AIVP Agenda 2030 (blue economy, energy transition, biodiversity protection and adaptation to climate change, etc.) which will be at the center of the next AIVP World Conference on Cities and Ports from 11 to 13 May in Tangiers (Morocco). The AIVP has recently joined the UN Global Compact Coalition for Ocean Governance to support the global effort to protect the oceans and the Sustainable Development Goal 14 "life below water". We are at a time of choice. Once again. There have been so many missed opportunities over the years. In 1912 and even earlier, scientists began to publicly express concern about the environmental impact of burning fossil fuels.1912 was also the year the Titanic sank. The supposedly unsinkable Titanic sank on its maiden voyage. And we, human societies, unconscious or incapable, are struggling to make the decisions necessary to avoid another kind of sinking. For 110 years we have been burning more and more coal and oil. With this energy voracity, we have been able to achieve a level of development, prosperity and comfort that our ancestors could never have imagined. But at what cost?
