Italian Port Days

In addition to the various ways in which the port can be involved in the life of the city, several practices can promote better knowledge of the port. For example, the organisation of events and “port days/weeks”, when hosted repeatedly, can become a forum for regular interaction between the port and the population. There are many examples of this event, like in Antwerp, Brussels, Valparaiso, Le Havre, etc. Another practice is scheduling guided tours by boat to provide a different perspective, closer to the ships and the port facilities, and/or by bus with excursions starting from points close to other tourist locations in the city. In Italy, the association of ports is responsible for the initiative.

This good practice also includes objectives 6.5 (Organising temporary or permanent cultural events in port areas) and 6.4 (Providing, by any means, daily news and information on port and city life for residents, particularly young people and school students) of the AIVP’s 2030 Agenda.
