How can the port be developed while mitigating its negative externalities?
There are a multitude of technological solutions available (building treatments, lights, port equipment, coverings, etc.) to reduce nuisances and allow contact between heavy port activities and urban activities. Research and innovation in this area will be intensified to produce ever more effective solutions. The port of Bremerhaven sought solutions with residents to mitigate sound pollution.
This good practice also includes objective 8.1 (Incorporating measures designed to reduce port nuisances into building design) of the AIVP’s 2030 Agenda.
Completed in 2008, the construction and operation of the container terminal CT 4 in the port of Bremerhaven required compensation measures and work on buildings in the nearby urban area.
