Innovative utilisation of light, colour, and materials holds the transformative power to revitalise the architectural landscape of public areas and structures, dispelling the negative industrial connotations often associated with port cities. The Ningbo Lighting Plan exemplifies this transformative approach, employing light to accentuate the city’s converging rivers and celebrate its unique identity. This initiative catalyses inspiring creative thinking in our architectural endeavours, urging the exploration of novel ways of revitalising urban spaces.
The Ningbo Lighting Plan, a testament to the power of collaboration, was brought to life by Light Cibles, led by Louis Clair, in partnership with the Chinese subsidiary of Light Cibles, Lang Cheng, and the lighting design agency of Professor H. Rong from Peking University's Tsinghua. This joint effort emerged as the winners of the lighting plan competition for Ningbo, a city known as the 'City of Three Rivers' due to its location at the convergence of the Yu Yao River, Feng Hua River, and Yong River. This collaborative spirit is a source of inspiration for other projects.
