Guadeloupe (France): The port is protecting the coastal ecosystems

Managing the growth of the urban, port, or agricultural areas requires a proactive long-term strategy to balance development with preserving biodiversity amidst the significant artificialisation of the natural landscape. Coastal regions are described as fragile due to rapid and extreme temperature changes and human exploitation. Human activities can have an extreme impact on coastal ecosystems, such as mangroves, corals, and seawater meadows and therefore, measures to protect, conserve, and restore these ecosystems are vital. The port of Guadeloupe launched the Cáyoli project to protect essential areas of local biodiversity and endangered landscapes after observing human activities’ impact on them.
