Innovative and sustainable solutions for energy and industry in city-port regions
Committing the City Port territory to achieving a low carbon, low resources society, through the transformation of industrial production, and the production and management of carbon-neutral, renewable energies.
How can alternative solutions be implemented in the port to heat buildings and reduce carbon emissions ?
Seawater heat pumps, a powerful tool in the fight for sustainability, maximise efficiency in heating and cooling systems. They align perfectly with initiatives aimed at sustainability and decarbonization in urban energy consumption. With regulations like the Renewable Energy Directive (RED) emphasising greenhouse gas emission reduction goals, private developers and public institutions could implement such pumps to minimise energy waste and CO2 emissions from inefficient buildings in the EU. As seen in the port of Cherbourg, the seawater heat pump could offer an alternative solution for decreasing fossil fuel usage.
This good practice also includes objective 4.5 (Adopting a land management policy that strikes a balance between urban uses and the active port, especially on the waterfront) of the AIVP’s 2030 Agenda.
