Marie-Annick Lamy-Giner is Associate Professor at the University of La Réunion where in 2006 she secured a Phd on the commercial ports of South Africa. With a forthcoming accreditation to supervise research (Habilitation à Diriger des Recherches), scheduled for May 2019, her post-doctoral research has continued to delve into Port and Harbour systems, their configurations, compositions and hierarchies. Marie-Annick Lamy-Giner has also investigated issues related to hinterland traffic, transhipment and port specializations, with an additional focus on strategies and positioning of containerization. Centred mainly but not exclusively in the western basin of the Indian Ocean, her research areas straddle both the mainland ports of South Africa and Mozambique with extensions to Namibia and Tanzania, as well as island ports in the Comoros, Reunion Island, Madagascar, Mauritius, Mayotte and the Seychelles. She is the author of a number of articles, collective and individual works, some of which can be found in specialized journals and on the websites of ISEMAR, Mappemonde or Geoconfluences. Marie-Annick Lamy-Giner is currently a member of the Department of Geography at the University of La Reunion, and her teaching spans both the Degree and Masters levels with lectures and seminars addressing questions of sustainable mobility and globalization, maritime transport and mobility. The supervision of Masters and Phd dissertations related to her research is another area of investment.
