How to redirect and reuse energy coming from the port to the city ?
By working together with all of the businesses present in the industrial-port area from an early stage, all of the appropriate legal options can be examined, along with the range of solutions that businesses can adopt in order to comply with environmental legislation. This process begins in the very first stages of a project to maintain, extend or establish industrial and port activities.
The port of Buenos Aires has developed several programs and certificates to encourage a proactive environmental behavior in port companies and vessels calling at their harbor. One example is the program for residues management, to promote an efficient use of materials, promote reuse and reduce toxic garbage. Another example is the energy efficiency program offering discounts to green vessels, with positive scores in the Environmental Shipping Index. Until 2019, 296 ships have already benefited from this incentives. This initiative has been also implemented in other ports worldwide.
