How can port authorities promote industrial collaboration?
Establishing maritime clusters necessitates identifying the diverse sectors of activity within the proposed redevelopment zone and involving public and private stakeholders. This process aims to pinpoint all parties’ shared economic and social interests, encouraging them to collaborate in research and development, communication, international outreach, and more. To facilitate this collaboration, a shared portal operated by the port of Dunkirk plays a pivotal role. It provides a space for companies to interact, coordinate, and share information, thereby promoting industrial collaboration in a practical and efficient manner.
This good practice also includes objective 2.1 (Promoting dialogue and cooperation between socio-economic stakeholders to bring their activities closer together, identify potential synergies and encourage better management of natural resources) of the AIVP’s 2030 Agenda.
Established in 2008 for the port of Dunkirk and inspired by the Flanders-Dunkirk Regional Planning and Development Agency's (AGUR) initiative, the "Toile Industrielle®", translated as "Industrial Web®" project, aims to foster a circular economy on a local scale. In December 2016, AGUR presented initial findings based on the "Toile Industrielle®" methodology, which outlined the industrial ecosystem and launched the web portal for the port city. The web portal provides partners access to a dynamic tool for examining and enhancing the Industrial Web. This portal serves multiple purposes, including understanding the economic structure of the region, designing predictive tools for comprehending industrial changes and potential developments and fostering a shared understanding of the Estuary's industrial ecosystem.
