:The laboratory’s name tells us its scientific aim. The concept of “territory” is about the relationship between humans and the spaces in which they live. Those social and productive relationships give a social and historic layer to the territory, in which political and social approaches come together and organise the interplay between local stakeholders, and the way individuals “live side by side” in a society or a community. The dynamics and processes (contacts, meetings, compromises, opposition, rejection, agreements, conflicts, etc.) at play within territories generate numerous discontinuities, with increasingly varied spatial forms. The coastal and maritime theme features very prominently, through an approach that looks at port and coastal spaces as places where the interaction between the continental aspect of the sea, and the maritime aspect of the continent, is expressed.
