In 2010, a project by architect João Luís Carrilho da Graça <\/a>was selected for the new cruise terminal in Lisbon. Chosen by a panel of representatives from the port authority, the Chamber of Commerce, the College of Architects and the College of Landscape Architects, the project drew unanimous praise for how it proposed integrating the terminal into the city. It was the most compact option, allowing a continued view of the river for the city. The new terminal, inaugurated in 2017, offers generous areas for passenger movement, duty-free shops, spaces for indoor and outdoor events, and a terrace with 360º panoramic view.<\/span><\/p>\n

The cruise terminal covers an area of 13.800 m2 and, together with the Santa Apolónia terminal building, is served by a pier 1.490 meters long with the capacity to receive ships of various types and dimensions with a draft of up to 12 meters. Located next to the historic and cultural centre of the city of Lisbon and just 8 Km from the International Airport Humberto Delgado<\/a>, the Cruise Terminal is accessible via train, by car, or through a 15-minute walk from the centre.<\/span><\/p>\n

The rooftop is used to organise and host events open to the public. The space has hosted the Banff Mountain Film Festival<\/a> several times, the last time in 2023. It has also hosted the biggest Fado Festival in Portugal, the Caixa Alfama, in 2024<\/a> and 2025<\/a>. It was notably selected as one of the stages for the festival as it is accessible to people with reduced mobility. The event also promoted the accessibility and inclusion of the festival through the interpretation in Portuguese Sign Language of all concerts on the Main Stage, as well as a reserved area on this stage for deaf and disabled people. <\/span><\/p>\n
