In 2010, <\/span>Robin des Villes<\/span><\/a><\/span>‘s non-profit association launched its “Des rives et des rêves” (Riverbanks & Dreams) to redefine the relationship between riverside industrial sites and towns. <\/span>Lyon’s Edouard Herriot Port<\/span><\/a><\/span> is the first to benefit from this approach. Despite the port’s significance in the region, many residents of Lyon are unfamiliar with it. The <\/span>event feature<\/span><\/a><\/span>d boat tours, immersive sound experiences, ‘wish cabins,’ and ‘utopian models.’ Its goal was to showcase port operations and gather ideas and input to enhance the site’s appeal.<\/span><\/p>\n

With support from the Compagnie Nationale du Rhône and Voies Navigables de France, among others, the programme involved tours and an open day during which residents could explore the port. There were also workshops designed to allow port dwellers to express their needs and desires. Students, the city’s future professionals, were then asked to create projects.<\/span><\/p>\n

The programme resulted in a publication outlining the approach adopted and including messages from various people. An exhibition was then organised in November 2011 at the site of the Edouard Herriot Port.<\/span><\/p>\n

The festival took place in Lyon from <\/span>2007 to 2013<\/span><\/a><\/span>. The <\/span>program has since migrated<\/span><\/a><\/span> to Marseille, between 2009 and 2019, and has been running since 2011 in Paris. The latest ‘Des rives et des rêves’ took place in 2023 at Carrières-sous-Poissy, outside of Paris. In the festival lineup, organised by the Department of Yvelines and set within the largest <\/span>Sensitive Natural Area of Yvelines<\/span><\/a><\/span>, there was a rich array of activities and performances all centred around the theme “Current of Air.” The public could participate in engaging scientific workshops for kite-making, bubble demonstrations, exhibitions, and acrobatic, aerial, and vocal performances.<\/span><\/p>\n
