A unique challenge was faced in Le Havre’s Eure district while constructing residential units near the ship-repair facilities. The Eure district used to be the heart of Le Havre’s old port, home to docks, warehouses and industrial brownfields. It is still part of the active HAROPA port, as it still includes dry dock maintenance of ships. Notably, it still has three such facilities located directly opposite. These dry docks see an average of 50 ships per year, accessible 24 hours a day to ships 180m long and 14m wide. <\/p>\n
To maintain a clear boundary between the two areas, the planners decided against the traditional fence options and instead opted for a carefully designed metal screen. The 250 m long structure is carefully landscaped to soften its lines, enhancing the visual appeal and offering a clear view of the ship’s repair activities. The fence has been designed in compliance with international standards related to security in port areas (ISPS code), ensuring optimal safety and security for all. This solution makes it possible to maintain the connection of Le Havre’s population with its port, softly connecting the port and city activities.<\/p>\n
