Established in 2008 for the port of Dunkirk and inspired by the <\/span>Flanders-Dunkirk Regional Planning and Development Agency’s (AGUR) initiative<\/span><\/a><\/span>, the “<\/span>Toile Industrielle®<\/span><\/a><\/span>“, translated as “Industrial Web®” project, aims to foster a circular economy on a local scale. In December 2016, AGUR presented initial findings based on the “Toile Industrielle®” methodology, which outlined the <\/span>industrial ecosystem<\/span><\/a><\/span> and launched the web portal for the port city. The web portal provides partners access to a dynamic tool for examining and enhancing the Industrial Web. This portal serves multiple purposes, including understanding the economic structure of the region, designing predictive tools for comprehending industrial changes and potential developments and fostering a shared understanding of the Estuary’s industrial ecosystem.<\/span><\/p>\n

In 2008, the Dunkirk region was hit by economic shocks. At the time, the future of industry was under threat, creating a great deal of uncertainty about the long-term future of companies based in the region. The “Toile Industrielle®” tool is a graphical and digital representation of the Dunkirk and Flanders-Dunkirk region’s leading exchanges and relationships between industries<\/span><\/a><\/span>. Its collaborative nature, requiring the active participation of industrial operators, is a crucial aspect of its success. This approach has garnered the support of the Port of Dunkirk, the Urban Community, the Chamber of Commerce and Industry, and industrial operators. The tool also provides an overview of the whole industrial ecosystem, its economic growth potential, and the existing opportunities in the region. Understanding the interconnectedness of local businesses is vital for identifying local resources, creating synergies, and initiating or advancing circular economy and industrial ecology initiatives.<\/span><\/p>\n

Over the years, the ‘Toile Industrielle®’ project has not only proven its value as an industrial and commercial resource but also as a beacon for attracting new businesses to the region. Its success story is a testament to the potential of industrial collaboration. In June 2019, a partnership between AGUR and Dunkirk-based start-up Les Possibilizzeurs resulted in the creation of Toile Industrielle®, an interactive digital version of the economic intelligence resource that is the ‘Toile Industrielle’. This digital version further enhances the project’s reach and impact, promising a bright future for industrial collaboration in the region.<\/span><\/p>\n
