He quickly proposed creating a committee for the integration of City Port territories for the three ports and municipalities concerned: Valencia, Gandia and Sagunto.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span lang=\"EN-GB\">The Port&rsquo;s Board approved the proposal in late 2015, and three City Port Consultation Committees were set up.&nbsp;Valencia&rsquo;s committee met for the first time in January 2016, the Sagunto committee had its first meeting in March, and the Gandia committee convened in April.&nbsp;The committee&rsquo;s role is to take a multidisciplinary approach involving all administrative authorities to look at the most appropriate way forward for the Port and City.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span lang=\"EN-GB\">Each committee is chaired by the Mayor of the town or city concerned. Committee members include the Municipality Councillor for Planning and the Directors of the Departments involved (planning, territorial development, etc.), the President and CEO of the Port, and the Autonomous Secretary for Housing, Public Works and Territorial Development at the Generalitat of Valencia. Technical experts are sometimes invited to attend meetings on specific subjects. The committee&rsquo;s findings are forwarded to the Commission for Territorial Integration and the Board of Directors, which gives the green light to implement the agreed commitments. Initial key issues included redefining port access, expanding Gandia&#8217;s port, and developing the Logistics Activities Zone&#8217;s impact on Nazaret and Valencia.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span lang=\"EN-GB\">Other port cities in Spain and across Europe have shown an interest in the initiative, based on the Valencia example and the positive results obtained. In May 2017, the Generalitat of Valencia presented this new mode of governance for Port-City relations at the <a href=\"https:\/\/cor.europa.eu\/en\/events\/Pages\/port-cities.aspx\">Port Cities and Port Area Regeneration Day<\/a>, organised by the Committee of the Regions, the Presidency of the EU 2017 and AIVP. It highlighted the benefits of the City Port Integration Committee as a mechanism for resolving potential conflicts in port-city interface zones and convinced the Committee of the Regions to include it in its recommendations.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span lang=\"EN-GB\">As a result of these collaborations, in 2019, the port of Valencia came up with a <\/span><span lang=\"EN-GB\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.valenciaport.com\/en\/the-port-of-valencia-allocates-230000-square-meters-for-citizen-use-in-front-of-the-natzaret-district\/\">Special Plan for South Zone 1<\/a><\/span><span lang=\"EN-GB\"> of the port, close to the Nazaret area of the city, increasing the relationship between the city of Valencia and its port. Moreover, in Gandia, <\/span><span lang=\"EN-GB\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.valenciaport.com\/en\/the-port-authority-of-valencia-calls-for-tenders-for-the-ideas-competition-to-revitalise-the-port-of-gandia\/\">old fruit sheds<\/a><\/span><span lang=\"EN-GB\"> are being requalified for public access in 2021.
