The Vejle Harbour development project hosts a marina and the new head offices of Kirk Kapital, as well as Harbour Island, a man-made island on which twelve office and residential buildings are to be built. The project is aimed at promoting a dynamic relationship between the downtown area and the Vejle fjord. Designed by <\/span>Olafur Eliasson,<\/span><\/a><\/span> the architecture of <\/span>Fjordenhus<\/span><\/a><\/span> (Fjord house), the Kirk Kapital A\/S head office and its open spaces – located at the southern end of Harbour Island – is original and unique. There are restaurants and cafés on the ground floor, while the rest of the building is used for office space. Comprising four interconnected cylinders towering at 28 meters, the building emerges from Vejle Fjord, establishing a link between the city centre and the water. Its ground floor, with arched openings and windows, engages with the surrounding fjord’s natural elements, while its distinctive glazed brickwork in shades of green and blue interacts with weather and light reflections. The building’s fusion of architecture and art is designed to create an ongoing conversation with the sea. Eliasson’s architectural pursuits will now be centred in his Studio Other Spaces (SOS), founded with Sebastian Behmann, focusing on interdisciplinary and experimental projects similar in scale to Fjordenhus.<\/span><\/p>\n

Architects Lundgaard & Tranberg and landscape architects Vogt and Studio Olafur Eliasson collaborated on a broader master plan for the entire marina. The project encompasses a new island known as <\/span>Club Island (Klubøen<\/span><\/a><\/span>), <\/span>a Floating Kayak Club<\/span><\/a><\/span> with twelve mixed-use buildings, and a marina project per Vejle Municipality’s plans. The structures were developed by FORCE4 Architects in 2015. Its roof terrace can also be used for other leisure activities. More specifically, the <\/span>Floating Kayak Club<\/span><\/a><\/span> is uniquely situated on the water, removed from the shoreline. This design choice not only makes the building stand out but also emphasises the practice of kayaking as an outdoor water sport. Outdoor group training and recreation activities are elevated to the rooftop deck. Here, various amenities cater to sports and leisure, including a barbecue space, an outdoor kitchen, a dining area, and a sun terrace. The two volumes, upper and lower decks, are seamlessly linked by ramps, walkways, and stairs, creating a continuous flow that allows for a circular movement within the club. Lastly, the Club Island is located directly next to the Floating Kayak Club, acting as a bigger recreation area hosting two prominent maritime clubs: Sejlklubben Neptun Vejle and Vejle Motorbådsklub. Beyond its primary functions, the facility encompassed various amenities such as a restaurant, meeting rooms, instructional spaces, guest sailor accommodations, a kiosk, and a harbourmaster’s office.<\/span> <\/span><\/p>\n
