The only remaining land available is close to the port. However, owing to its proximity to the port, Danish legislation prevents its use for permanent constructions. The solution adopted is very similar to that employed in Amsterdam for the same regulatory zoning reasons, and entails using 40-foot containers as the building blocks of a student campus, designed by <\/span><span lang=\"EN-US\"><a href=\"https:\/\/cphvillage.com\/\"><span lang=\"EN-GB\">CPH Containers<\/span><\/a><\/span><span lang=\"EN-GB\"> and architect S&oslash;ren Nielsen (<\/span><span lang=\"EN-US\"><a href=\"https:\/\/vandkunsten.com\/en\/projects\/temporary-student-village\"><span lang=\"EN-GB\">Vandkunsten Architects<\/span><\/a><\/span><span lang=\"EN-GB\">). This temporary complex addresses the shortage by utilising open land within ports that is currently protected from permanent construction. By designing with transportability in mind and incorporating features such as wood interiors, efficient insulation systems, and adaptable living spaces, CPH Containers offers a unique approach to resolving Copenhagen&#8217;s housing challenges. The modular student village is envisioned to be disassembled and relocated to new areas once the original land becomes available for traditional development. This innovative project showcases the potential of shipping container architecture to provide flexible and sustainable housing solutions.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span lang=\"EN-GB\">The concept utilises the most elementary feature of a container &ndash; its transportability &ndash; to create a flexible solution that can be moved, if the site needs to be cleared in the future. A waiting list for the CPH Village was opened in September 2017, and the first students moved in at the start of November of the same year. The facility housed a total of 184 students at the end of 2017. A second village was planned for the second quarter of 2018 (for 164 people), followed by villages 3 and 4 (500 people). CPH has announced plans for other such villages in Copenhagen. Altogether, a total of 2500 student accommodation units are expected to be built in 9 villages.
