“<\/span>Harbour Magnets<\/span><\/a><\/span>” was an ambitious architectural project and <\/span>festival<\/span><\/a><\/span> that took place in Aarhus, Denmark, from August to September 2017. <\/span>LIST,<\/span><\/a><\/span> an architecture firm, played a central role as the festival’s artistic director and one of the participating architects.<\/span><\/p>\n

The concept of “<\/span>Harbour Magnets<\/span><\/a><\/span>” involved creating a series of full-scale installations spread across Aarhus’ Harbour, accompanied by a central exhibition, roundtable discussions, and open-air cinema screenings. The installations, developed by LIST and two other international architecture offices, aimed to reveal specific environments and engage the public in exploring disconnected parts of the city.<\/span><\/p>\n

The festival’s theme was inspired by the concept of “Bridging”, and LIST focused on the territorial dimension of bridges rather than their physical connections. They considered bridges as territorial magnets, emphasising their visual relationships with the surroundings and how they define the city’s geographic position in the Bay of Aarhus.<\/span><\/p>\n

Each installation by LIST used scaffolding elements and harbour materials, offering different sizes of suspended seating for public observation. The project aimed to showcase the unique qualities of each site in the Northern Harbour and highlight ongoing transformations. The installations formed a constellation of landmarks that underscored the interrelations between piers, views, distances, and links between the city and the harbour, all while contemplating the future development and preservation of these areas.<\/span><\/p>\n
