Construction of “<\/span>Kalvebod Waves<\/span><\/a><\/span>” – designed by JDS Architects – started in 2012. This sector of the waterfront will offer a broad range of public spaces, recreational areas, and pedestrian promenades. The design of “Kalvebod Waves” relies on the visual interplay between different horizontal levels, one of which extends out onto the bay itself. The project was inaugurated in August 2013.<\/span><\/p>\n

The project involves a series of wavelike structures that merge waterfront infrastructure with public spaces. These undulating forms create a harmonious connection between the city and the water, offering dynamic spaces for recreation and interaction. The design envisions a variety of uses, such as swimming, sunbathing, kayaking, slides, and even winter skating. The Kalvebod Waves project not only revitalises the waterfront but also promotes a sense of community engagement and interaction with the surrounding environment. This innovative, appealing design highlights the role of architecture in enhancing urban landscapes and offering novel experiences for the community.<\/span><\/p>\n

The Kalvebod waves are contemporaneous with <\/span>the Harbour Bath,<\/span><\/a><\/span> constructed in 2002 in Copenhagen, which stands as a remarkable example of urban architectural innovation. Designed by PLOT (now known as BIG – <\/span>Bjarke Ingels Group<\/span><\/a><\/span>) in collaboration with JDS Architects, this project reimagines the traditional notion of a public swimming facility. The two projects are directly opposite to each other, creating two big spaces for fostering port city communities to come together. The Harbour Bath transforms a former industrial area into a vibrant aquatic centre, providing residents and visitors with a unique opportunity to swim in the open waters of the harbour. Its design consists of a series of interconnected pools and platforms that seamlessly integrate into the urban fabric, creating a dynamic space for leisure and social interaction. By merging contemporary design with a functional approach, the Harbour Bath offers an engaging waterfront experience that reflects Copenhagen’s commitment to creating urban environments that prioritise both aesthetics and liveability.<\/span><\/p>\n
