Over 6,300 businesses are involved in the transport and logistics sector in the <\/span>Montreal<\/span><\/a><\/span> metropolitan area (2014 figure). In 2012, a metropolitan transport and logistics cluster for Montreal was launched. Dubbed <\/span>CargoM,<\/span><\/a><\/span> it aims to bring together all of the stakeholders concerned, including transport operators and authorities (Port of Montreal, airport, etc.), as well as various committees, associations, educational and research institutions. <\/span><\/p>\n

The CargoM association plays an active role in supporting the supply chain of Greater Montreal. By fostering partnerships and communication between various stakeholders in the supply chain, including shippers, carriers, and service providers, CargoM contributes to the region’s economic growth. The association’s efforts include promoting sustainability, advocating for infrastructure investments, and addressing key issues impacting the logistics sector. Through collaboration and ongoing engagement, CargoM aims to enhance the competitiveness and resilience of the Greater Montreal supply chain.<\/span><\/p>\n

The creation of <\/span>maritime clusters<\/span><\/a><\/span> requires the various fields of activity present at the proposed redevelopment site to be identified, along with public and private stakeholders. A cluster refers to a group of organisations with common interests that collaborate to enhance economic development. In a metropolitan cluster, companies geographically concentrate their operations to boost competitiveness and expand their influence. A logistics and transportation cluster is a specialised form where related firms in the same industry cluster together, sharing production, distribution, and transportation networks. Montreal’s Logistics and Transportation Metropolitan Cluster (CargoM) embodies this concept, aiming to utilise the advantages of clustering to enhance Greater Montreal into an intermodal hub. This process will aim to define the shared economic and social interests of all stakeholders, who will then strive to combine their efforts in the areas of research and development, communication, international prospecting, etc.<\/span><\/p>\n
