Next step: the AIVP World Conference in Lisbon

We are now looking ahead to a major event: the 19th AIVP World Conference, to be held in Lisbon from 27 to 29 November 2024. This meeting will be a key stage in the preparations for the United Nations Conference on the Ocean (UNOC) scheduled for June 2025 in Nice.

At the heart of this event will be the creation of a global coalition of coastal cities, designed to respond to the consequences of climate change. AIVP will play a central role in this initiative, promoting the strategic role of port cities and seeking specific support. The conference will also be an opportunity to adopt a declaration formalising our expectations for the future of port cities and their citizens.

Why this conference in Lisbon is essential for the future of port cities

The success we achieve at the Nice Conference will depend on our collective mobilisation in Lisbon. It is therefore essential that all port cities are present to make their voices heard.

This year’s conference theme, ‘Open Piers: Steering flows between people, planet, and port cities’, will highlight the dynamic interactions between port cities, their inhabitants and global challenges. It will be a unique opportunity to exchange ideas and explore innovative solutions to strengthen the resilience of our cities in the face of global change.
