From the 11th to the 14th of March 2024, CLIA Cruise Week Europe took place in the Italian port city of Genoa. AIVP was active during the event represented by José Manuel Pagés Sánchez who joined the roundtable “Smart Cities for Managed Cruise Tourism” with other experts including Davide Falteri, national VP of Federlogistica, Consigliere delegato of Genoa Municipality and Carlos Romero, Director of Tourism Research, Development and Innovation of SEGITTUR. The session, moderated by Alfredo Serrano Chacón, Spanish Director of CLIA, highlighted the different smart tools which are being implemented today in port cities to diminish the negative impact of cruises, but also the challenges that remain for a massive implementation in more cases. The event was an excellent opportunity to meet with several AIVP members active in this sector and promote the achievements of the Working Group on cruises and port cities, which AIVP and MedCruise share. On April 10th, another important milestone of this working group will be achieved with the presentation of the Cruise Port City Compass, a publication gathering good practices and reviewing the state of the relationship between cruises and port cities. The presentation will take place during the Seatrade Cruise Global, in Miami (USA).
