From Porto Alegre to Fortaleza, from Rio to Santos, Belem or Manaus, Brazilian port cities, whether maritime or river, play a crucial role in the growth and development of the country. Beyond their role as commercial centers, they are the embodiment of a country’s identity and their names resonate in many countries around the world. It is therefore a source of great pride for AIVP to announce the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding between the Brazilian Ministry of Ports and Airports and our association on February 10. Mr. Silvio Costa Filho, Brazilian Minister of Ports and Airports, and Mr. Edouard Philippe, President of AIVP and Mayor of Le Havre, have initialled this document, which opens up great prospects for cooperation around AIVP’s 2030 Agenda for the sustainable port city, just as Brazil is set to host the Climate COP at the end of the year. Training activities, whether through AIVP international events, dedicated seminars or participation in our program of online courses led by Professor Sabah Zrari, will be among the actions to come. More specifically, this partnership agreement will facilitate:
- the exchange of experiences between peers on subjects such as the shared use of maritime and river waterfronts, city-port integration or the civic engagement of port-side communities,
- the promotion, within the AIVP network, of the good practices of Brazilian ports on the themes of the Agenda 2030 by AIVP.
