AIVP was represented at the energy transition focused ESPO Conference 2023

Théo Fortin, as representative of the AIVP, attended the recent European Seaports Organization's conference held in Bremen (Germany), on the 1st and 2nd June. The collaboration between our two associations is dynamic and long-standing. Several sessions hold during this conference had a significant relevance for the relationship between ports and cities.

Port of Seattle: A Community Advisory Program

The Port of Seattle is located in the State of Washington, Northwestern United States. In close connection with the City of Seattle and the King County, the Port authority of Seattle tries to continue its development in a sustainable way. The port commissioners are even elected by the county citizens. It has already been a few years now since a dialogue was initiated with the community of the Duwamish valley. The citizens who live there are the most impacted by the externalities generated by port operations. As the AIVP found this initiative particularly interesting and some first results are already seen, we conducted an interview with Christina Billingsley, Senior program manager, environmental engagement, and Dre Avila, Community volunteer from the Duwamish valley.

AIVP in Amsterdam (Netherlands) for a new European “Connected River” project

From Tuesday 28 to Thursday 30 March, the thirteen partners involved in the European “Connected River” project met in Amsterdam (Netherlands). The meeting marked the start of work by this new cooperation initiative focusing on rivers, waterways, and waterfronts. The AIVP is among the participants in this major European project. Our association has agreed to disseminate the best practices identified following pilot schemes in five countries: the port of Amsterdam and the city of Nijmegen (Netherlands), the port of Hamburg (Germany), the ports of Lille (France), the city of Vordinborg (Denmark), and the Kleine Nette river in Flanders (Belgium). The ambitious consortium has a shared goal, to find solutions to mitigate conflicts between the different uses of these spaces in river port cities.

The European branch of CLIA, the organisation that represents professionals in the cruise sector, met in Paris (France) from 8 to 10 March for its annual summit. The AIVP supports the Port of Valparaiso (Chile) in the creation of its Port Center

As part of the collaboration between the Port of Valparaíso (EPV) and AIVP, José Manuel Pages Sánchez, director of the Agenda 2030 AIVP area, traveled to Chile to assist in the launch of the process of creating the Port Center of Valparaíso. EPV and AIVP will work together for 5 months to define the Port Center model that this port city requires, including issues such as the governance structure, the exhibition, or the business model.
