What is the “River Port Cities” working group?
To better support our members located around inland ports along the world’s rivers, AIVP created a third working group in 2024. Unlike the other two working groups, which are organized around a precise and delimited subject (the Port Center and cruises), this one is developed on a rather geographical basis. It aims to include our members’ inland ports and river towns, to better support them in the diversity of issues that distinguish them from coastal towns and ports. Issues of cooperation for upstream-downstream governance (or even right bank-left bank), questions of extreme climatic events (drought, flooding), urban logistics, spatial proximity between industrial port activities and residential neighborhoods are just a few examples of the variety of subjects addressed by the working group.
As with other AIVP workgroups, the themes and workshops are co-constructed with members, to better meet their expectations.
One face-to-face meeting a year brings together interested members for two days of workshops and visits. Webinars are also organized to discuss jointly-defined themes in greater depth. Port and local authorities are at the heart of the discussions, with guest speakers including professionals and academics, depending on the topics under discussion.
