Its privileged geographical position at the mouth of the Seine and its direct connection with Lower Normandy via the Normandy Bridge, make Le Havre the metropolis of the estuary, opening onto the world. A strategic situation, 200 km from Paris, which enabled, during the Seventies, the development of a state of the art petrochemical industry but also the handling of millions of containers since the Grand Port Maritime du Havre has become the top French port for foreign trade and containers. Large projects have emerged such as the tramway and the new Stadium and Le Havre will be able to be included in the Grand Paris project and become the privileged maritime gateway of the capital. The city and port will together celebrate their 500th anniversary in 2017, with an exceptional season of culture and events.
