The first city in the Pas-de-Calais with over 76,700 inhabitants, Calais benefits from an exceptional geographic situation. Calais is at the center of an intense economic activity. Its port is the top french port and the second european port for passenger traffic with 10 million passengers per annum and nearly 1,5 million tourist vehicles utilizing the ferries operating on the liaison between Dover and Calais. Freight is not forgotten, with 44 million tons of goods and 1,9 million heavy goods vehicles, making the port of Calais the leader in continental Europe for Ro-Ro freight and the top cable making port of Europe. Today, Calais alone absorbs 80% of the Cross Channel trade.
