As is well known, Seatrade Cruise Global is the biggest cruise event in the world. AIVP was active in this fair for the first time, represented by José M P Sánchez. The reason for joining was two-fold: José Sánchez moderated one session focusing on sustainable ports and the publication of the shared Working Group with MedCruise was presented. The event was an opportunity to meet numerous members. The cruise sector is relevant for many port cities, in some cases as the main source of revenue. At the same time, the sector is immersed in a sustainable transition with particular attention to green energy and OPS systems, that would facilitate the integration of these activities in Port Cities.
The session moderated by José Sánchez was entitled “Cruising in a Changing World – Sustainable Ports” and counted with the participation of:

- Joshua Carroll from Royal Caribbean Group

Key aspects in the discussion were also the adaptation of port infrastructure against climate change and terminal design trends, responding to sustainability demands, as well as challenges such as business models of OPS systems or price differences.
The other highlight of the week for AIVP was the presentation of the ‘Cruise Port City Compass – Global cases inspiring sustainable connections & communities‘. This work results from 2 years of cooperation with MedCruise, and a very motivated group of ports. The final publication, coordinated by Noemi Frascella and José M P Sánchez, gathers 18 interviews with ports and cities, and 7 articles with experts such as Thanos Pallis, Francesco di Cesare, or Stéphan Rousseau, as well as international organizations and companies including ESPO (European Sea Ports Organisation), CLIA in Europe, Global Ports Holding Plc or Wabtec Corporation.
