Port Center Meeting Montreal – Canada

The Port Center Working Group led by the AIVP is specifically dedicated to active members interested in setting up and developing a Port Center. In 2023, we brought the group together in Dunkirk for the first time since the Covid-related interruption. At this meeting, the Port Centers expressed strong expectations on two subjects, namely the renewal of educational tools and multi-stakeholder governance. We also agreed to update our “Charter of the missions of a Port Center”, a document dating from 2013, which remains relevant, but whose graphic line and certain parts need to be updated.

Many of our Port Centres have come a long way. That’s why we’re making this Workshop highly interactive. Each participant will be able to contribute his or her testimony to the debate. Those whose Port Center project is still in the process of emerging will also be heavily involved. It is very useful to look back at the obstacles encountered when creating a Port Center: by looking at how our colleagues overcome difficulties, we can improve our own projects. Choosing audiences, organising visits, involving professionals and the private sector, financing and governance… all these elements of the day-to-day life of a Port Center will be put on the table.

The third highlight of this Workshop is obviously the discovery of the city-port community of Montreal and its port interpretation centre. Our colleague Philippe Bertout, along with various local experts and representatives of the City of Montreal, will endeavour to show you the many facets of their work in the service of the citizens of the port city.
